When we first moved into our home, we had a jungle. I assume the previous owners meant well when they planted twelve trees and placed bushes around the perimeter. However, nearly thirty years later, you could barely find your way into the front yard. The lawn in the front had looming tree branches, ivy rather than grass. The backyard, while it had a nice paved area, was lined with bushes that was sure to be home to creatures of the neighborhood.
Ike and I have poured hundreds if not thousands of dollars into cleaning up our yard and making It into our own space – a space that reflects us. Sure, we still need to nurture the grass to grow into the obvious patches and remove the weeds but I am still so pleased with our work. For us, it’s home and it’s ever becoming more of our home the more time we pour into it.
A most recent project, we had our flower bed filled with perennial flowers that I am hoping are low maintenance since my green thumb is simply not so green. My job each morning is to make sure they get some water. When we install our watering system, I am hoping this can be automated but until then I am enjoying the slow mornings when I get to walk outside with Charlie and water by hand.
